When it was first announced, DOA: Xtreme Beach Volleyball was seen as something of a joke by many in the gaming community. And, after listening to a description of the game, it is hard not to. After winning the Dead Or Alive tournament, Zack purchased a tropical island and invited all of the DOA girls to join him. Once on the island, the girls were left with little to do other than lounging around the pool and playing beach volleyball with nothing to wear but bikinis.

Dead or Alive: Xtreme 2 drops the “Beach Volleyball” label from the title, indicating that the game will be about more than just playing beach volleyball and looking at digital girls in practically nothing. The only concrete information Tecmo has released at the moment is a short teaser trailer showcasing some of the things you’ll be able to do in the game, as well as other…uhm, details…

The trailer begins with a few relaxing shots of paradise. From here we begin to see the DOA girls partaking in various relaxing tasks. In other words, they’re lying out by the pool and on the warm, white sand. The trailer goes on to show the girls playing around in the pool on floating pads similar to the mini-game found in the original. One shot shows two girls playing tug-of-war while on the pads. Other activities include a water slide, jet-skis, and a mini-photo shoot.

At this point, it is hard to say what else the game will entail or exactly how these elements will come together in a full game. While the original was seen as a joke, those who took a chance and played it found out that it was a pretty decent volleyball game, even if it was short on replay value.

No release date has been given, though a trailer has been made available in the Xbox Live Marketplace.
